ARC Boosts Performance, Flexibility and Efficiency with Snowflake

Modern Cloud-Built Data Warehouse Allows ARC to Better Serve the Global Travel Industry

Arlington, Va. — August 14, 2018 — Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) today announced it has deployed a cloud-based data warehouse from Snowflake Computing to improve speed, efficiency and flexibility for its more than $88 billion of transactions per year.

ARC provides transaction settlement services, comprehensive ticketing data, and expertise for the global air travel industry and its travel agency channel. With a 50-year legacy, ARC, an airline-owned company, is a crucial hub of information and services for the global travel industry, helping its customers shape and execute their business.

“Data is at the core of ARC’s identity, whether it’s the data around a ticket purchase or the market data that allows our customers to better understand and optimize their business,” ARC Vice President and Chief Information Officer Dickie Oliver said. “Using Snowflake is a natural advance for our data strategy, allowing us to leverage the benefits of a cloud-computing environment to deliver on the promise of a truly data-driven travel industry.”

A key element of ARC’s overall business transformation is the implementation of a highly scalable enterprise data warehouse that powers ARC’s data products and enables insights into the travel industry. ARC completed an in-depth evaluation using real-world use cases of multiple cloud-based options and chose Snowflake as the best solution. Snowflake offered the highest performance, fastest time-to-market and lowest price point. Additional Snowflake benefits include:

  • Faster performance – Customers will be able to request new reports in a shorter period of time, and receive responses to requests for customizations of existing reports more quickly.
  • Create business efficiencies – ARC will be able to streamline its product delivery to optimize both costs and value to its customers.
  • Greater customization – With Snowflake, ARC’s data team will be able to execute against a series of product-specific data marts for each customer, tailoring the offering to the needs of the specific customer.
  • More insight into costs – Snowflake enables ARC to gain better insight into the resources involved in producing any given product or report.

“ARC is the gold standard for data in the air travel industry, touching the experience of hundreds of millions of travelers and tourists every year,” Snowflake CEO Bob Muglia said. “Their decision to utilize Snowflake to better serve their customer base is further validation that our technology adds value to companies of all stripes, from disruptive innovators to established enterprise players.”
