ARC Participates in Global Airport Action Days

Data Sharing Results in the Arrest of 153 Suspected Criminals

ARLINGTON, Va. – June 26, 2017 – Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) participated earlier this month in the sixth annual Global Airport Action Days (GAAD), a major international law enforcement operation, which resulted in more than 150 suspects apprehended and charged for attempting to fly using airline tickets purchased with stolen or fake credit cards. This is the second year that ARC participated in the GAAD operation.

During GAAD, ARC partnered with 84 airlines and eight online travel agencies from 64 countries by providing fraud intelligence from its ticket transaction database to locate those suspected of fraud at 230 airports across the globe. Various law enforcement agencies worked in tandem with GAAD and executed the arrests after denying boarding of the suspects to their flights. In total, GAAD provided law enforcement with 312 leads based on suspicious transactions.

“ARC’s Risk Management department is dedicated to protecting the interests and mitigating the losses of participating stakeholders, a goal shared by the law enforcement agencies involved in the Global Airport Action Days. We were able to disrupt the fraudsters who target travel agencies on a daily basis,” said Doug Nass, ARC’s risk management manager.

Credit card fraud in the travel industry has been linked to many other crimes including drug and human trafficking and money laundering. Several investigations in connection with GAAD are still ongoing.
