March Madness Spurs 25 Percent Increase in Air Travel From Final Four States

Average ticket price to Phoenix from Final Four states is $431

ARLINGTON, Va. – March 31, 2017 – Sports fans looking to take in the biggest college basketball tournament of the year can expect to pay less than last year according to a recent report* by the Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC). The average ticket price from the Final Four states to the tournament’s host city, Phoenix, for the culmination of March Madness is $431, down from $663 last year’s tournament, which was held in Houston. The national average ticket price to fly to the tournament is $417, down $180 from last year.

Air travel to Phoenix increased an average of 25 percent from states with teams in the tournament—South Carolina (University of South Carolina), Washington (Gonzaga University), Oregon (University of Oregon) and North Carolina (University of North Carolina). Fans watching at home may see more Gamecocks in the crowd as 46% of travelers are flying from South Carolina. Tarheel fans are close behind with 32% of travelers flying from North Carolina, 17% from Oregon and 7% from Washington.
