Update to IAR Full Refund Logic
On May 9, 2019, IAR began using the financial data for full refunds sent by each global distribution system (GDS) provider instead of the full financial data from the original settled transaction stored in IAR. Previously, the GDS-supplied financial values were ignored on a full refund (all coupons returned) in favor of the stored IAR value except for when the refund was generated using a GDS auto-repricing engine.
The original IAR full refund logic was designed to prevent incorrect refunds and to ensure passengers received a full refund credit. The reason for this change is to accommodate full refunds when the airline does not allow the full value of the original sale to be returned (such as non-refundable taxes and non-standard use of taxes, etc.). This change also supports accurate full refund processing when the airline has filed a fare that prevents use of a GDS auto-repricing engine, and the airline does not allow the full value of the original sale to be returned to the passenger.
This change benefits agents because the IAR refund value will now match the GDS refund value for any full refund; therefore, no longer requiring manual adjustment to remove any non-refundable taxes or values. However, when a full refund is being manually entered in to IAR, the full stored financial values will be populated and agents will need to manually adjust any non-refundable taxes or values that the airline does not allow to be returned to the customer. Any refunded commission from a full refund will return the settled commission value as stored in IAR from the original transaction back to the airline.
There is no change to partial refund processing or to refunds priced using a GDS auto-repricing engine.
