At ARC, we keep an eye on all kinds of travel trends in order to better understand shifts in traveler behavior. Especially during peak travel seasons and holidays, we examine which destinations are most frequently booked through ARC MarketPlace, a booking tool that gives travel agents access to commissionable travel experiences around the world.
This year, we encountered something unexpected when analyzing our Fourth of July bookings — for the first time in a decade, not one U.S. destination made it to the Top 10 destination list on ARC MarketPlace.
Instead, European destinations garnered nine of the 10 top destinations on ARC MarketPlace for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, extending from June 30 to July 4. These were the top picks:
Edinburgh, Dublin and Vancouver are new additions to the list, ousting New York City and San Francisco as top travel destinations for the holiday weekend.
Of the 1,186 different tours booked in 176 destinations worldwide this holiday weekend, the most popular bookings include “Skip the Line” tours for the Eiffel Tower and the Vatican museums, as well as a Vancouver sightseeing tour. We also saw a 21 percent increase on ARC MarketPlace bookings overall compared to the same period in 2016.
