At ARC, we always strive to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Our first annual hackathon was the perfect platform to foster that innovative spirit. The challenge brought together 40 employees spread across 12 talented teams for a day of collaboration, creativity and problem-solving. The teams found solutions and new ideas that have the potential to transform the way we do business.
The five categories the participants were judged on were:
-
Problem understanding: How well does the team understand the business problem?
-
Solution effectiveness: How effectively does the solution address the problem?
-
Feasibility: Can the solution be implemented with available resources?
-
Presentation: Can the group clearly present solutions?
-
Bonus points: Working code and forming cross functional teams
The hackathon’s wide-ranging variety of projects touched on challenges identified from across the organization. Some teams focused on improving internal tools to boost efficiency, while others focused on concepts aimed at enhancing the customer experience.
In third place, Team Cowboy Code, comprised of data analyst, Trista Leech, solutions architect, Steve Munleeuw and business process analyst Monica Grabarek provided data-driven insights to customers around residual value documents.
In second place, Team Droid made up of data engineer, Charlotte Hall, data engineer, David David and data science analyst, Shaira Osmani worked together to develop an AI-powered ARC data resource navigator.
Coming in first place was Team Hack-Attack comprised of data engineer, Dibyasha Sahu, intel and market research manager, Julia Reilly and software engineer, Jeff Hernandez. This team worked together to create oversight on Jira product roadmaps.
Some of the ideas generated at ARC’s Hackathon are already being explored for full implementation. With this hackathon came a powerful reminder that when we come together, we can create solutions that could positively impact the travel industry, and these innovations will drive our organization forward.
