National Mentoring Month is recognized each January to highlight the importance of mentorships and the impact these relationships have on people’s lives.
At ARC, our employees know the value of passing experience and valuable insights on to the next generation of colleagues and young professionals. We want to recognize our employees’ mentoring experiences and how it’s helped them grow.
Alex Melo – Security Ops Engineer
“I was connected with Lauri Reishus through an official ARC mentoring program that helped lead to self-discovery and provided guidance on the skills I needed to grow and thrive professionally. The mentoring relationship we had helped me access networking opportunities and build confidence within my role at ARC. I learned how to tailor my approach to my audience when presenting an idea or trying to get buy-in or support. It was a significant milestone in my career, and I encourage anyone looking for a mentorship to find a person that inspires you and reach out. The mentor or mentee doesn’t have to be directly involved in your area of work.”
Amy Roane – Escalation Specialist, ARC Customer Care Center
“Mentoring gives you an outside perspective of the skills and areas you can improve, regardless of if you’re the mentee or the mentor. When I look for a mentor, I look for someone who can help develop my knowledge and skills and provide professional advice for the challenges I encounter. One of my ARC colleagues, Tisha Lindsey, has been a source of motivation and has helped me reach professional goals within ARC. I’ve learned to embrace being uncomfortable and to never hesitate to ask a question because other people might have the same question but are afraid to ask. Our mentoring relationship grew organically through the work we do together.”
Shelby Rottschafer – User Experience Engineer
“I’m currently a mentor for various technology groups in the West Michigan area, helping students from elementary school to high school learn to code through bootcamps and instructive courses. As a woman in tech, I wanted to give those who are in the position I was in the support and resources to be successful and feel empowered on their journey. Being a mentor has helped improve my soft skills and conquer areas that used to intimidate me, like public speaking. I’ve discovered my voice in the tech industry. For anybody looking to become a mentor or a mentee, I’d encourage them to make the most of their resources and network and never be afraid to reach out to someone or attend an event. I love the work I do as a mentor and have created meaningful connections that fuel the passion for what I do.”
